Meyer C. Weiner, Founder

Meyer C Weiner
Performance with integrity is a tradition at Meyer C. Weiner Company. Since 1948 we have provided responsible - and responsive - commercial development services to a demanding list of clients, many of them some of the most important retail merchants in the United States.

One of the few remaining family-owned and operated development companies and one which isn't required to go to a Board of Directors for a decision, we have built our reputation on personal service.

When Meyer Weiner founded the company over 75 years ago, he was simply taking a ride on the "roller coaster of real estate". Soon after the construction boom for shopping centers started in the 1950's, Meyer was there to assist such companies as Sears, J.C. Penney, and Montgomery Ward in their west Michigan real-estate needs. They were looking toward outlying communities and suburban locations to either replace downtown stores or complement them.

Michigan's Southland Mall is a classic example. Built in 1961 as a 140,000 square-foot strip center with 17 merchants, the Meyer C. Weiner Company virtually tore it down and rebuilt the facility into, first, an indoor mall, and now an effective power center, encompassing over 400,000 square feet, including such tenants as Old Navy, Circuit City, and Barnes & Noble.

The company has certainly expanded from Southland, acquiring and developing a myriad of retail, office, and residential properties in Portage, Kalamazoo, Oshtemo, Muskegon, and Wyoming. Additionally, when Meyer "retired" out to San Diego, he moved part of the company with him, and the Balboa-Genesee mixed use property was born. Meyer passed on September 1, 2001.

Joshua T. Weiner

Today, Meyer's son Joshua has taken the reins of the company, and led it into the 21st century, leading the charge of power center management. Joshua grew up in the business and became CEO in 1984. He has attended 54 ICSC Conventions and is a licensed real estate broker in the State of Michigan.
Now spanning across three generations, the Meyer C. Weiner Company continues its tradition of excellence in leading the community through property and economic development.
